Sing your Way Home
Joseph Martin
From Glee Clubbers…
It might sound cliche to say, but this song always captures this almost perfect distillation of the Glee Club. To know that feeling of being in a world where sometimes all you can do is sing your way through a dark and otherwise silent night. And to know that you'll be okay, you'll find the path, you'll walk the road again, and it will be brighter for the suffering and singing along the way. The Glee Club knows the importance of music in making the world a better place, but I hope that we never forget it's ability to make our world a better place. Brothers, sing on!
Every time I head back to my hometown I'm always blaring music and singing along with this song. I am literally "singing my way home". After a vigil last year where we sang "Sing Your Way Home" at the campanile, this song taught me to appreciate my life and my ability to still do the little things.
This song fills me with so many different emotions. It brings me comfort to know that I have shared this piece with my brothers and I listen to it to remind me of what it’s like to be with them. It also fills me with sorrow because it reminds me of the darker times in my college career when I turned to Glee to find my happiness again. I hope someone can find comfort in this song, leading them home. I will always find a home in the Glee Club.
This song carries with it the part of the legacy that all Glee Clubbers, past, present, and future can share. By virtue of being in the Glee Club, they could now put to words and song something I'm sure they had done countless times before: sing their way back home. It perfectly characterizes the mission statement of the Glee Club in that it can, through the power of song, lift up the downtrodden, inspire those who may desperately need inspiration, and make our world a more beautiful place. It is a poignant reminder of why we do what we do.”
